TRANSPORTATION
Arriving in Serbia
Unfortunately, the railway is currently not an option for travelling to Serbia, so our guests need to rely on cars or buses for short trips or on flights for those travelling further.
Belgrade Airport
Nikola Tesla International Airport is just 15 minutes from Belgrade’s city centre. More than 100 direct flights to international destinations arrive and depart here, so you are likely to be able to find a flight that suits you. Additionally, low-cost airlines such as Wizzair and Ryanair fly directly to Belgrade from many European and international cities.
Niš Airport
Serbia’s second-largest and second-busiest airport. There are buses from Niš Airport to Belgrade throughout the day which arrive at the Central Bus Station. More information is available here. The drive is approximately 2.5 hours long and costs 20 EUR.
Budapest Airport (Hungary)
It is possible to travel by road from Budapest Airport in Hungary. One of the most convenient options is Flixbus, which is 6 hours long and costs 38 EUR each way. There are also door-to-door mini buses several times per day that can be used for direct transportation from Budapest Airport to a specified address in either Novi Sad or Belgrade. This costs approximately 50 EUR each way, and the duration is around 4 hours. More details on one of these services can be found here.
International Buses
Flixbus is a possible option for travel to Belgrade from cities such as Sofia, Zagreb, Ljubljana, Budapest, Vienna, Trieste etc. Buses arrive at Central Belgrade Station. More details can be found here.

A Warm Welcome
On Sunday 19th November, from 08:00 to 22:00, volunteers from ASSITEJ Serbia will be waiting for our delegates and guests at the airport, where we will welcome you warmly and provide any necessary information.
Travel Between Belgrade & Novi Sad
Joint travel from Belgrade to Novi Sad will be organised by ASSITEJ Serbia on Monday 20th November and Tuesday 21st November
for all participants who register for this.
If you are travelling independently, please know that there are no intercity buses directly from the airport.
Buses from Belgrade to Novi Sad depart regularly from 03:00 to 00:00 from the Central Bus Station. Buses are, at most, 30 minutes apart. The timetable for these buses can be found here. Ticket prices are between 4 and 8 EUR each way, depending on the bus company you select. The duration of the trip is around 90 minutes, if the bus is non-stop and depending on the traffic.
A better option is the express train “SOKO” that leaves every hour daily from Belgrade Central Train Station “PROKOP”.
This station is approximately 8 minutes by taxi from the Little Theatre “Duško Radović”, our venue for the opening ceremony. The express train also departs every 64 minutes from New Belgrade Train Station, which is 20 minutes walking distance from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts. The journey takes a little over 30 minutes from Belgrade to Novi Sad. Details can be found on the website here. 1st class tickets are 732 RSD each way (6,2 EUR), while 2nd class tickets cost 573 RSD (5 EUR). Take a look at the train schedule to find the best option for you. For a return ticket, there is a 20% discount offered. Tickets can be bought online, but unfortunately, the website is in Serbian only. There is an app for Serbia Railway which has English language settings, but no account can be made through an international mobile number. The app can be downloaded here.
Transport In Belgrade & Novi Sad
Taxis
There is no Uber or Bolt in Serbia. Our local alternative is called Car:Go, and can be used via an App available on Google Play or the App store. Foreign mobile numbers can be used for registration and a credit card must be connected with the app. Cash payments are not accepted by Car:Go. When you arrive in Serbia, you can download the app here.
All taxis have a taximeter and you will probably have to pay in cash. Sometimes payment by card is possible but we recommend that you check before entering the taxi. All officially registered taxi vehicles should have a company board and a unique number on the roof, a taximeter, and a registration plate with the letters TX at the end.
There are two different taxi rates in Belgrade:
• from 06:00 to 22:00, the rate starts at around €1.8, and the charge per kilometre is around €0.7.
• from 22:00 to 06:00, on Sundays or public holidays, the rate starts at around €2, and the charge per kilometre is around €1.
Please note: if you hail taxis on the street you will potentially be overcharged – you should always go to a taxi rank or book a taxi by phone or via an app.
Other Recommended Taxi Companies in…
…Belgrade
PINK (https://pinktaxi.info/en/#aplikacija): This app can be used in English and a foreign mobile number can be registered. It can be connected with a credit card so no cash payments are needed when using the service.
NAXIS (https://naxis.rs/en/): This app can be used in English, and a foreign mobile number is accepted. However, there seems to be no option of connecting a credit card, so this service can be used only for booking a ride, and not to avoid cash payments.
…Novi Sad
PAN (https://pantaxi.rs/pantaxi-aplikacija/): This app can be used in English, and a foreign mobile number is accepted. However, there seems to be no option of connecting a credit card, so this service can be used only for booking a ride, and not to avoid cash payments.
Taxi services in Novi Sad are slightly cheaper than in Belgrade.
Public Transportation
All information about public transport is available on this link: https://belgradecard.rs/public-transportation/
For buses/trams/trolleybuses, single tickets can be bought at GSP points-of-sale: Skenderbegova 47, Deligradska 10 or Republic Square (Belgrade).
You can check the network map here.
We do not recommend using local bus transportation on your own, since they are unreliable and stop many times between your origin and your destination.
However, if you do decide to use local buses, the MOOVIT app can give you more information about public transportation routes from your specific location.
